Hi people. Was chequerboard headstock binding ever an option on a 4001?

In the past, you could special order that; up through the early or mid 1980s, IIRC.

Ok, ta. The headstock would have only been "single bound" with the black/white binding, wouldn't it? As opposed to the white binding on top of the black/white on the body?

I have never seen checkered binding on a 400x bass headstock. I don't even recall seeing it on a guitar headstock from the factory...

John: I agree that they are quite rare. I do believe, however, that this one left from the Factory.

I like the look of the chequerboard binding around the headstock and was contemplating doing it to the 4001 I'm bringing back from the brink. I was only curious to see if was ever available on a 4001. Anyone got any pics?

I would also be curious, but I don't think one exists.

The only headstock binding (factory or otherwise) I've ever seen on a 400x series bass was on the 4002. That was black, not check...

Well, I have enough chequer binding for the body and headstock, so I'll see what pans out. Alcohol could play a factor in the decision making process...

Many of Paul W's customers ask for CB headstocks. I should know; I'm one.

On a cresting wave headstock the effect is electrifying. Like neon.

I don't have any bass shots personally but if you dig through his huge topic of "Projects recently completed" you may have success. Or you can contact him by PM and get some images from the horse's mouth.
... I know it's not a bass but If you want to see my Ruby 320:

The CB really brings the humble little headstock to life.

Very nice Kira.
I found this one while trawling the net.
The finish isn't quite my cup of tea but I think the binding looks great on the headstock.

Not sure, but that bound 4001 must be the coveted "Dumpster bass".
