Hi eeverybody,
I'm new here. I'm from Peru and Rick basses are really rare here in my country. However, I bought a rick from my friend. This is an interesting story...but to make it shorter, my friend's uncle passed away years ago. So one day he was in his uncle's house picking up some boxes that his uncle gave him when he was still alive. Anyway, he had a big surprise when he opened one of the boxes and found a Rick bass. To be more specific it is a 4001S. Well, I bought this bass. It results that it was manufactured in 1963. It's a 4001S (Jetglo) and it is in good condition except for a ground noise that the bass makes....a luthier, here in Peru, told me that it is because the picks are really old.

I wanna know how much it would cost.

Wow, what a find! I'm sure everyone here would be interested in detailed pictures.

Can you describe the hum - is it all the time? If you hold the strings does it go away or be less noticeable?

HI, well about the noise...it goes away when I touch any metallic part such as strings, keytunes, picks, wire..

There should be wires between all the pot bodies, the pickup switch body, the shielded wire braid from both pickups, the tailpiece (the wire will be soldered to the back of the mute foam's metal bar), and the shields that go to the output jacks. This is all of the grounding wires, which it sounds like you have one missing (check for the one to the tailpiece) or there is corrosion of the wires and the grounding is not good. I'd look there.

Here is a schematic for the bass, except the volume pots on yours will be 250k ohms and the tone pots will be 500k ohms.

I'll upload some pics from my bass....I don't know what to do with it....I mean keep it?? sell it?? I'm a big fan of the Beatles. I've been playing bass guitar for 15 years...(I'm 31 now) and I always wanted a rick. Now I have it..but it is kind of frustrating not having it fine...and the luthier we have in Peru, it's not a RICK luthier...

Patience, my friend. Sometimes these things take time to get sorted out. All the resources you need are right here in the RRF, so with time everything will be just fine in the end and you will have a great bass to cherish and play.

I have friends from Peru, most of whom live in the US these days.

I would love to see more pictures, including under the pickguard and the jackplate!

hopefully it is real...but, it looks like a v63 in the pic especially the surround and i don't see any holes for the tug bar ??? what is the jackplate ser # ??

well i'm impressed on the serial #. the pickguard looks to be a v63 replacement unless tug bars were not installed in early '63 ??? was jetglo available in '63 or a repaint ??? hardware looks correct. still a question on the surround ???
