That pickguard makes me think of an old Teisco.

It certainly doesn't remind me of the SG-style body I used to have back in 1971. Looks more like a bad Fender imitation. Then again, my own body doesn't remind me much of the one I had back in 1971 either.

Why? Does it look like bad imitation as well?

It looks like the child of Fender and Mosrite Bass... anyway, the cream one's not doing bad at all. If you want a rare colour take the Satin Fireburst

My thoughts exactly Werner - combining the look of two iconic instruments and coming up with something not quite as good as either....

The white wouldn't be bad. It's funny looking down neck and seeing that head stock!

i think that is the key thing with me, too. It is an interesting melding of various instruments but the open book headstock doesn't jive with the rest of the bass. A Thunderbird headstock would be better if not ideal.

I like it, but not at that price.

Ummm,NO. I've only ever been tempted by 3 Gibson bass designs,2 of which are not in production. (Nonreverse tbird, and the eb1.)
The third is the venerable reverse t bird, but even that design, while quite possibly being the coolest looking rock and roll bass ever,is not so great for feel and ergonomics....
This one is just another kind of OK looking bass at boutique pricing....
Even better would be if they reissued the 60's epiphone EMBASSY,WHICH WAS THE BEST TBIRD OF THEM ALL.

Isn't this roughly based (pun intended) on the Lee Sklar model bass from a few years ago?

I've never heard of that one.

To me, the body looks like the Mosrite Ventures model crossed with a Hagstrom.

I see more than a bit of Fender Mustang Bass in the lower horn and parts of the pickguard.

Okay, here's a quiz, how many instruments are represented in this design? Maybe Gibson really did this a tribute to all those great basses they never made?
