Help please?

Hi guys' newbie here from across the pond............ and when I say newbie I mean it! Ok after playing (six string) guitar for over 35 years now, in various bands over the years, and now just a home etc, I have finally just got my first 'real' Ric 4001 bass! a 75 model in Fireglo, and she's awesome.

Years ago I had a very brief spell of four strung GAS, and had a ric' copy made by Shaftesbury, which was a fantastic looking / sounding copy, but I just couldn't get to grips with playing on my own at home, and so the novelty quickly wore off? Anyway' after many years of promising myself a real one I now have it! My question is? what would be an ideal 'small' set up i.e amp? amps?? for home use??? The tone Im looking for is off course that Geddy Lee / Cris Squire 'clang' Any suggestions gratefully accepted?

Welcome to the forum Kevin! Try searching this part of the forum for combo amps and the likes. There have been some really good discussions on this in the past.

Welcome to the forum, Kevin! You'll get lots of opinions here from people with favorite amps.
I'd suggest you bring your Rickenbacker to a couple of music stores with a variety of amplifiers. Get the one that suits your ears and budget best. I personally shy away from amps made in China, but that's just me.

Welcome from a fellow newbie
Maybe try a Gallien and Krueger combo? I noticed that my 4003 absolutely slays on my 700RB/410, even better than on my SVT with fridge.
I use a Tech21 PBDR for growl and dirt if necessary.

Welcome, Kevin!
I second the Markbass suggestion. As it is probably less expensive on your side of the pond check out the Minimark combo amp.

Bought a Fender Rumble 350/210 combo today that so far is handling everything I give it. Haven't tried the 4001 through it yet, though. Got it for practice and small gigs but it will lay out some volume.

Also depends how loud u can get at home! I had an old ampeg v4 that sounded fantastic with my 4001. Even at 100W it was probably too loud for the house.

OK, just spent an hour playing the 4001 through the Rumble 350. Tons of grind but real smooth with a bit of compression. For a 210 combo amp this thing is window rattling. Very pleased. Best $450 I've spent in a while. I'm guessing there's not a lot of love for this amp here

but I'll recommend it if you want something small and easy to transport that will produce enough volume for small gigs.

I owned a micromark for a year or two,and was pretty amazed at how much volume came out of such a tiny box. Markbass has made it a bit larger since i owned mine,so the newer version should have a bit more bottom depth,too.(8" speaker VS 6" in the earlier version)
I use a cmd121p Markbass combo now,but that would just be overkill if you're just mosly using the amp at home.
