I have not posted here in a very, very long time. Once I acquired the RICs that I had really wanted (a 360/12 MG and a 380L) there seemed little reason to do any online talking about Rickenbacker.
Also, for various reasons (parents’ health and eventual deaths, personal health issues) and now a bout with flexor tendinitis in both hands, I have not played at all in over a year.

But last night I decided to attend and play at a farewell event for an old musical colleague and was thinking which guitar I should bring. I was debating between a Telecaster and my 380L and decided to take the RIC. And I am very happy about my choice.

I was reminded last night that not only is the 380L the most beautiful guitar ever made, it also one of the most beautiful sounding guitars ever made.

It was perfect, sounding as sweet as can be (despite my playing

) and responding to every move. The perfect guitar.

I ignored the pain in my hand and hope to do some more playing in the near future.

I can’t say I will become a regular here again but just wanted everyone to know that I think of you guys often, miss being here, miss playing and hope that as many people as possible get to have the same joy as I do playing a Rickenbacker instrument.

Welcome back Mark. I was wondering why you haven't been posting lately and sorry to hear of your health issues. I hope you stick around and participate more.

I am glad to hear that you are still enjoying the 380L.

Hey Mark, good to hear from you, especially that you picked out the Laguna for that event. I can totally understand you , the Laguna turned out to be my main guitar as well, just a wonderful guitar ! Keep it going ! All the best foryou !

I too have some issues with tendonitis from years of chopping veggies and flipping saute pans (playing guitar and bass regularly may factor in as well but I'm in denial about that

) During a flare up a few years ago I decided to give acupuncture a try as it was covered by my insurance. I was very surprised at the success and relative painlessness of the procedure. If at all possible, you may want to look into it. I was skeptical at first, but a few centuries of Asian medicine may be onto something

I guess I should add some additional information.

None of the illnesses or other medical situations I experienced during the past year are serious or life-threatening. More of a nuisance and inconvenience than anything else. Sorry for alarming anyone.

I have looked into some solutions for the flexor tendinitis. Though, I admit, acupuncture has not been one of them.

I tried some “homeopathic” herbal remedies and they made me sick.

I went to an orthopedist and had an injection of cortisone. It worked great ... for about a month ... and then the swelling came right back. Only one month of relief is too short a period of time to make this a regular occurrence solution.

There is surgery. (There is even a YouTube video of the procedure.) But testimonials seem to indicate that the surgery’s success can also be short lived.

I also play “backwards.” My fretboard hand (left) is also my dominant hand. And I’m hesitant to have elective surgery with the same hand I write with.

PS: I tried playing at home a little during the holiday weekend and my finger was jumping straight out each time I released a chord shape. This is a huge P I T A.
