Questions/Help Sought
Hello all.......
I just purchased a vintage lap steel with the intention of dropping its original, magnetized HS pickup into one of my V63 basses.
(This lap steel dates back to the 50's)
I have some questions regarding this:
1. Will it be/is it possible to fit the HS into the V63's re-pro surround???
2. Since the pup is from a 6-string instrument, will it have to be altered in ANY way to fit into my bass??
3. Since the pup will be going from a righty to a lefty instrument......ANY possible issue(s) here???
Finally......two trains leave from two seperate stations in Cambodia.....
SORRY...
My last question.....Anyone here adept at doing this procedure, and if so, how much would you want to do it???

Re: Questions/Help Sought
Talk to Mark Walker, he can convert you bobbin which will have to be changed to 4 poles from the current 6. No problem fitting it into a RI surround so long as the HSs are 1 1/4" wide, not the earlier 1 1/2" wide, which I assume goes for the baseplate as well. Righty/lefty doesn't matter.

Darn!!!!!! That's THE most important question.....and I forgot to ask about it
Guess I'll have to do some measuring, and praying, when the guitar arrives.

Even if that is the case, Mark can help you with that, too.

I SURE hope so!!!!!! Thanks Jeff....I will contact him.
BTW---Mark and I had a long talk about the bass pictured above, at MARF, and I have a ton of pictures that I took of it that day.

I did thread on this topic a few years ago. The magnets will work if you have the right model lap steel. You do want to replace the bobbin though as Jeff said.
Re: Questions/Help Sought
Curious question - if a toaster is 6 pole and used in a bass, why can't you use the 6 pole lap steel coil? Poles too narrow on those (I know the 8 string ones are tiny)?

The poles in a toaster are ALNICO magnets. The poles in a horseshoe pickup are just fillister head screws. You could use a 6 pole bobbin I suppose but 4 properly spaced poles would work better.
