Hey ya'll First post for me (although i"m in some pics from the Oct 20 SCARF event ..it was at that event I was able to try out a fantastic 2004 660/12 and caught a serious case of R.A.S! So off to the net and phone I went ...couldn't find one nearby but kept on searching...and
Friday I became the proud owner of my first Rick guitar! (I once had a '74 4001 IN '75) It's a 660/12 FG brand spanking new (as of 2011). Here are some impressions...:
First of all it was 99% in tune out of the case! Pretty amazing considering it made a 4 day trip from Lexington to Long Beach CA! Amazing finish with some subtle birds eyes peeking out on the front and gathered in mass on the back. So...I picked her up and was immediately struck by the quality oozing from inch ...
I started picking one of my own tunes ..and was rewarded with that famous jangle even with out an amp..nice resonance throughout the guitar...in tune up the neck.
So I spent about 3 hours running through every song I could think of that featured 12 string and some that don't. I had a blast getting to know this little monster! Somewhere in there I did plug it in to Amplitube on my iPad..THAT made me play even longer! What a tone!
Saturday I had a gig with my band Different Drum at Silky Sullivans in Fountain Valley and brought the Rick. We play lots of classic rock and I was able to introduce her via a proper trial by Fire!. First time in a proper amp (Mesa Boogie mkV /Port City 2/12 cab). A couple minutes checking the tuning and...
I saw her Standing there ...check nailed that classic Beatles tone/vibe
American Girl ...check nailed TP jangle
Surrender (Cheap Trick) ..I still had the Rick on ...why not? 12 strings on a crunchy Marshally tone...Amazing!
Our Lips Are Sealed (Go Gos) got that one too!
Santaria (Sublime) ...`12 string not usually a choice...but it sounded great!
Still the One (Shania Twain)...WOW the 12 string was amazing ..beautiful...
So as Jill our singer said at the end of the gig...".. That guitar is a keeper!"
There is one pic from last night (my avatar) but I'll add some proper ones soon!
