Armed with the information that many of you have contributed to this forum, I successfully made a truss rod adjustment to my 2010 4003. All in all, I made about a 1/2 turn on each rod to eliminate a little bow. Now the neck is much flatter and the bass plays great. It wasn't bad before, but now it is much better and the action is really nice.
So thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. I've been playing bass for over 30 years, and have owned a 4001 for over 30 years, but have never adjusted a truss rod on any bass until last week. The information posted here gave me the information and confidence to perform the adjustment with success. Now I know the difference in the truss rods on a 4001 and 4003 and how to adjust each.
Now if I had the proper tool to do the adjustment, the whole process would have been cake. But alas, my 1/4" nut driver didn't fit and neither did any of my 1/4" sockets, some very thin walled. I think that when I do this again, I will take the time to modify a 1/4" socket to make the adjustment easier.
