1984 Bass Catalog

I picked up a neat little item on ebay last week. i had seen it for sale a while back but never placed a bid. I had been tracking it so it was still in my watch folder. I contacted the owner and he relisted it. I bid 5 GBP and was the only bidder. It arrived today! It's pretty neat to see a time capsule of what was available in basses from Rickenbacker in 1984. The 4003 was still bottom adjustable, and the 4001 as well as the 4002 was still available.

I remember when I was shopping for a new bass ay Manny's in NYC, I inquired about new Rickenbacker's. I sort of remember the salesman asking me what model. Having just owned a 4001, I had no idea there were multiple choices. I must looked like a moron. I couldn't afford a new RIC anything so I went for the Fender P.

Enjoy the fotos!

My good friend Toshio and our Japanese distributor at that time was not impressed. I remember his comment well, "Rooks like dead man's rips".

I had that catalog as a 14 year old boy and used to swoon and dream over it. I may still have it somewhere. I also had the one from the later 80's that folded out into a poster of the different models. That was on my wall for years.

Cool indeed. I was able to score a '75 catalog off the Bay, to go along with my '76 3000. If I had actually bought the bass new, I'm sure I would have been drooling over a catalog as I save my coin!

Still got my 1993 brochure for the 4003 basses, 5 years before I got my 1992 4003.

I wish I still had my catalog, which might have been a 1983.
