4003 pickguard removal question

hello, and thanks for reading. i searched an found no help, hence the post.

i'm trying to get to the toggle switch on my 4003 to clean and lubricate it. i just did so on my 360 and 381 without a hitch. however, on the 4003, i cannot remove the pickguard after loosening all the screws. it seems to be stuck near the bottom on the string side, perhaps from lacquer or something (?) this is the first time i've tried to remove it.

i don't want to force anything and cause damage. can anyone share an insight? thank you!

Maybe some beer got stuck under the pickguard. Nothing should be holding down the pickguard if the screws are out. Be gentle pulling it up.

Gently slide a palette knife between the pickguard and the body! One of those things that the wife uses in the kitchen - thin - flexible, rounded ends and no sharp bits!

Or a business or credit card. Work gently.
