Question about 4003 Pickup cover removal

I see that on Joey's Bass Notes there are basically two ways to remove the pickup cover - one that involves taking off all the strings and the other way that does not.

I want to remove the pickup cover and also install a treble bezel at the same time. Is there a general consensus among the experienced forum members as to which way is the preferred method to do this? I'd rather not remove the strings if I don't have to, but if I do, then that's okay too.

My preferred method is to remove the strings and take the assembly apart. I've done it so many times, that it's easy to me.

It's really, really easy to do... I know it seems like a pain to have to take the strings off, but all you really have to do is unwind them from the posts and pull the slack down so the coiled ends of the strings are down by the bridge. You don't have to remove them completely.

If you're going to do it, you may as well take all of the steps and do it right... and that way you have much less of a chance to mess anything up.

:D

Many people look at working on guitars as a tedious chore. I find it to be relaxing and and enjoyable.

Okay then, I'm going to dive in and do it the right way and just take off the strings.

I don't necessarily find working on guitars tedious. I'm just afraid I might screw something up in the process and not be able to get it back together again. :(

Thanks guys.

Follow the instructions on JBN. Also check the diagram, which there is a link which goes to the RIC website.
I've never installed a Tube Ampology treble bezel, but I'm pretty sure the difference when you put it back together, is instead of putting the bezel between the base plate and the springs like the RIC cover, you put the bezel at the top between the springs and the surround plate. I think you should also have the ground wire loop placed between the bezel and the surround plate.
Don't rush. If you have any problems, let us know.

Also pay attention to the position of the bridge before removing the strings, because it will rock and if it is not back in the same position when you are done, intonation will be off.
