Nope. April 1978. Terrible "refinish" job, even painted over the binding. Yech!

What's with the red blobs on the controls? And the terrible stain/paint/whatever-that-is job...
People are weird sometimes.

Not worth what they're asking or even close but it's one of those basses that, for the right price, I would try to give a loving home and rehabilitate it to gig-worthiness. I always kind of like the mutts in a strange way. I mean... brush strokes? Wow. No one else is going to love it anymore so I guess I have to.
The last time I decided to take a mutt in I ended up with my 4001FL and that's been quite a good bass to have.

Well I thought the bigger crime was the store wrongfully stating the year.....since they should know better.
But now it's apparent that the alterations done by the previous owner were much worse....
Two big wrongs though.

Not sure it was done intentionally.
The serial number is there for anyone to check anyway.
It is an horrible refinish job!

It might clean up to find some decent wood under there, but I would haggle like crazy on that price! Below a grand...might start to perk up a little!

I got my 4001FL in similar condition for $800 a couple of years ago. I would think with some effort the seller (if sane) could be talked down to $1000 if not better.

Well, I informed an Emerald City Guitars store rep 2 days ago,...and they don't seem to care.
