I got this nice item at work, an '02 Tenada japanese build Epiphone Elite Dot CH. (Yes, no need for glass, 2002 not 2012!)
This guitar's never had an owner before... it's NOS...

Thanks, Jason - I am very happy with it. I can do without a Gibson ES-335 now, as this has the US PUs and electronics.

Thanks, Matt - it really is a great guitar to play.
If I tell you what it cost me I get a mob with tar and feathers after me!

You will be very happy with it - I have a Korean one that I will never part with. Yours is probably even better. They aren't necessarily perfect, but minor issues are easily dealt with.

Yep, the Elites are killer guiars.
Except for the poly vs, nitro finish, I think they out perform the Gibsons.
I sold a blonde one over a year ago and still regret it.

I doubt the finish will bring an audible difference - I do hear a difference between the Dot and my Elite LP
An ES-335 was long on my wish list but it's been removed as this Dot will do.
Regarding audible - when Gibson started using different fingerboard material like baked maple or richlite they had all of them all tested for various sound properties. In the range of the human ear baked maple will sound the same as rosewood, richlite the same as ebony - rosewood and ebony do give off distinct and different audio profiles. If you're a dog or a bat you will hear the difference between richlite and ebony or rosewood and baked maple though!

My son just got one. It's a nice guitar. The fit and finish are really more than I'd expect from a 'cheap import.' He really enjoys it.

the japanese built Epiphone Elite/Elitist series were not exactly cheap, still the current Epi Dot is really not bad at all. Still thinking about an Elite Casino though
