White Celluloid binding in UK...Help!

I'm having major hassle getting hold of white celluloid binding here in the UK. I need some for my 360 resto project, but seem to be drawing a blank. I obtained my checkerboard from Shellex in Germany, but the other binding they sell is ivory not white, also it's only 6mm high, needs to be 7mm ideally. Any UK based folk got any supplier info? Nobody ships from the US because of the fire hazard with celluloid.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Mark

Hi Jeffrey, I'm not sure what they use as standard on new build instruments, but as I'm using celluloid checkerboard, I'd prefer to stick to the same material if possible for the outer binding...the annoying thing is that I could buy a ton of the stuff from China, but it would literally have to be a ton!!!$$$$

Imagine the possibilities, though.

Yeah, I could become the sole UK distributor of celluloid binding...now there's a thought!

And it would probably cost about as much as a pound of the stuff from anywhere else...

Hi folks, not been in for a while, and still my search for white celluloid has proved to be fruitless!!!
Therefore, I have decided to bite the bullet and use ABS instead.
To recap, I've already applied celluloid checkerboard binding, so my question is: what's the best way to glue the ABS to the celluloid? Is the acetone/celluloid method ok with ABS?
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks, Mark.

The acetone method doesn't work with ABS, from my experience.
I'm really not a fan of ABS, it's extremely difficult to work with, especially on sharp corners like the horns. Good luck with the celluloid search, somebody has to have it in the UK.

Hi Colin, thanks for the advice...you would think there would be someone for sure, but I've drawn a blank at every turn!!
Do Ric use ABS now or are they still using celluloid?

I believe they use ABS, though I'm not sure if it's the same stuff that's commercially sold to luthiers. There are ways to heat or treat ABS to soften it for easier installation,
I would imagine that RIC doesn't use celluloid binding because it's expensive and considered a hazardous material and therefore expensive to ship. It's highly flammable stuff - I wouldn't want boxes of it sitting around in my shop!
