You can't go wrong there. But if you're looking for more common strings like D'Addario or Ernie Ball, Amazon.com has surprisingly good deals on strings.

No. They have a tight tension that will bow your neck and hurt your fingertips. Trust us, TIs are the way to go.

No. Not for Rickenbacker 12-string sets, because neither of these establishments sell 12-string sets with a wound 3rd G string which is imperative if you're going to get proper intonation with the traditional six-saddle bridge.

Now, if you're going to do as I have done and custom order singles in order to make up your own set, then any place that sells singles should do, but it will be more expensive.

Just curious as to what makes the Thomastik strings so expensive. I gig a lot and change strings often, and I really can't justify paying almost $40 for a set of strings. I've always used the D'Adaddiros, and they seem fine to me.

I shouldn't have to change strings very often with the TIs, so they may prove to be less expensive, in the long run. Don't ask why that is, it just is, for most people, anyway.

Well, true, everyone is different in how they use their instruments and maintain them. Although I could buy five sets of D'Addarios for one set of TIs. Still, I've never been able to tell the difference between more expensive items, e.g. strings cords, etc., and their cheaper counterparts. I know some claim they hear a distinct difference, and perhaps in the still quiet of a studio that may be the case. But I play in a loud, six piece band and to be honest, any differences are quickly absorbed by the entire sound of the band.

Mine is due to the roller transport paper processor (for RC papers) I stood near all day long in the darkroom for almost 22 years.

Big +1 here. I usually try to change the strings on my 12er once a year, too. Although I've read on this forum that many don't change the TI flats for several years, I believe my location doesn't really let me get the mileage I want out of strings. In southeast Louisiana, lots of humidity and other factors that turn the strings (the higher ones especially!) black when I'm ready to change
