well, I pulled the trigger on an AtA case. I settled on Calzone/Anvil because they were the easiest to work with and the price with shipping was reasonable. I had wanted to purchase one from Chris at PoTR but he is having supply issues with his supplier.

The case is built really well and it quite heavy. The bass cutout fits like a glove and is quite deep. There is not way for the instrument to move around in this case!! Quality was very nice although I would have wanted a recessed carry handle over the strap type. i have an email out to the sales rep asking about that. I selected olive drab since I'm not flashy and hell, I like olive drab!! They had a huge selection of exterior colors to pick from.

I'm a case or two short due to a few instruments arriving with beat to heck cases, so this will fill in nice. Also when instruments go for repairs, like my 4002 project, they will travel in this.

Looks like a good case! Did you get the luggage type wheels on one end so you don't have to carry the whole thing?

Hindsight is most definitely 20/20!! I should have ordered the wheel option and part of me was thinking of getting a double bass case but while that would have solved one need, it would have still left me without a single HD case. I did think of the wheels but I opted out thinking it's not going to be that heavy. The case is not all that heavy but it is bigger and harder to maneuver by the handle. The wheels would have made it much easier to tote.

Thanks man! It's Dave Pascoe's former 4002. I need to just call it that since so many here know of it as being Dave's bass. It's got the most detail in the wood grain that I have ever seen.

If you need another name for it, I'd have no problem with you calling it, Joey's 4002!

I have a similar Calzone case, built like a tank, and weighs in about the same, but, that said, fantastic protection for your Ric ... mine was ordered in a nice bright blue

As I have said many times, the best thing you can ever do for you vintage Ric that costs around $500...
