I wonder if it's a Musician's Friend Computer Glitch 4003 MID . . . ?
I know LOTS of them were sold for @ $1100. I got a (February) 2010 4003 MID in that tech hiccup.

you know I think when you have to ask others if they would do a trade...you may already have answered your own question..... I am a trading fool and usually trade without the slightest hesitation. Hmmmm

Well I love my four 4001's, and I love my Fender P's too. Personally, I wouldn't trade vintage for new unless that P is a dog. (many were...) My '74 and '77 P's are stellar. (many are..) In defiance of all common sense, 70's Fender values are going up way past anyone's wildest dreams. That may continue. I'm just not sure yet if new Ricks will attain that status. Tough call but I say no trade....

My thoughts exactly Fran...and this 75 is "right".... light, killer tone and plays like a dream.. I just have to keep myself from trading my house or my kids when my Ric acquisition kicks in hard!

I definitely would not do this trade. Unless you have no connection whatsoever with the P-Bass that is!
I had a 1975 Jazz that I never really liked.

If you already have some Rickenbackers, and the vintage P-bass sounds good and plays well, I wouldn't do this trade. If, on the other hand, you didn't have a Rickenbacker, then I would consider it...

... as far as I remember, there was a series of midnight blue 4003 from MF, that were going out cheap, having some issues...

When selling my fall of 1981 Fender p bass, which had been in storage since 1985 and included everything like original hsc, Fender strap, cleaning cloth, headstock tag, owners manual, and both covers, no one was interested in it. The highest offer I got was $900. so I sold it for that. I thought it was worth more.
Like previously stated, go over the 4003 with a fine tooth comb since many of the Musician's Friend Mid blues had issues. If I would have been presented with this trade offer, I most likely would have jumped on it.

I agree with this.

I think the fact that it's a "new" 2010 MID is what makes this a definite no-no. (That plus any sentimental value you might have for the P.) Otherwise in terms of cash value I really don't think the P is worth as much as a new Ric 4003 in almost any condition, although I've seen big arguments on the innernetz about how much 1970s Fenders ought to be valued at these days and whether they should be considered vintage. I just saw a healthy-looking '75 or '76 going for $1300 which seemed about right to me, but I've also seen people ask for up to $2000 for pretty much the same thing.

In looking at the other RIC basses you have, the only reason I would get this is for the finish.
I would be sure the finish is perfect; I think one of the issues the MF MID's had was in the finishes.

Well, maybe... but as the OP said: "this 75 is 'right'.... light, killer tone and plays like a dream.." That puts it in a different light. I always say, keep a keeper.

Here's another way to look at it:
Would you trade a 75 4001 that plays well for a 2010 P bass?
I wouldn't trade a vintage cool thing for a new shiny unknown.....
Keep the P
