If that was a genuine original '69 4001, it would have a toaster pup in the neck position. Also the tailpiece doesn't look original - there's no gap in the centre post of the string mute section.

Look at the other pics. It's got a bolt-on neck. Another faker being misrepresented the real deal.

It looks like a 1979 4001 to me - small poured inlays, short and sharp curve headstock, big horns etc. Tricky to see with such dark pictures, but it's had a little agricultural work around the neck pocket for sure - is that the evidence of Lemmy's ownership?

Okay...did anyone besides me look at the rest of the pics? It has a bolt on neck, therefore it's a fake, so discussion of other details about the bass are pointless.

Yes it is clearly a bolt on fake. But I read somewhere recently that Lemmy was known to play his fair share of Rickenfakers. Far as I know, he didn't destroy them. Just saying.

Hey calm Dane! The pics are dark and awful. The "bolt-on neck" looks like a repair to me. Just an opinion. No problem.

Mark, the rectangular neck plate is a dead giveaway. While this could theoretically been a repair on a 4000 or 4001S, neither bass would have a fingerboard with triangle inlays.

Plus, it looks like the binding goes all the way around the body, no gap under the tailpiece. Yet another indicator of a fake...

I know the guys at the Gallery (Martin is my main luthier and is a phenomenal boutique bass builder) and emailed them about this a while back. Next time I get chance to go down I'll see what they have to say. It sure isn't a '69 and it's certainly a bolt-on but it doesn't mean it wasn't Lem's at some stage. I'll add that Rics historically aren't their strong point, which to be honest goes for pretty much any shop in the UK.
