RIC RAC (Removable Arm Contour) :)

Took my 4003 in for set up. The luthier asked how i like it etc. Got a surprise when i picked it up last nite. He said: "You mentioned the binding hurt your right arm. So, I made you this". A beveled piece of maple. IT FEELS GREAT!! Held on with double sided tape I am told will not be a problem to finish if i ever removed. (dont think i will) ... i think it looks neat (my only mod). He offered to match the neck, I liked the Maple. My brother-in-law immed brought his Taylor acoustic and requested one (a black one to match his binding, bridge & neck) If anyone is interested, contact me. I'll ask him if he wants to make more.

I was the first he made, then he made one for his jumbo acoustic ... now my brother-in-law's.

Glad to see you know of the source for your luthier's inspiration.

Neat. Never saw that. Well, at least mine was free and custom made for the Ric's curve. I didnt see anything on that site for specific guitar/bass. Also, i never realized till shown last night on his acoustic how much sound is lost by an arm resting along the body.

I have been debating whether to get a JP arm rest for my acoustic, there is certainly a noticeable difference in volume and somewhat, tone.

Even with the armrest, you still have to learn to play with your forearm off the body of the guitar. but it will help and the arm rest really doesnt kill volumne/tone since it is attached right at the corner.

Right, the arm rest attaches where the kerfing is so there is minimal affect on the top's vibration, which is why these work. I have never tried one so I do not know how my arm would lay on the body (or not) with an arm rest in place.

Another cool arm rest concept is the beveled edge, as used on some higher end acoustic guitars.

Can you take a pic with you playing the bass with this? Just curious how you rest your arm over it. Looks like it favors plucking close to the bridge...?

Amen! Never understood the grousing about binding. Good technique alleviates the problem 10 of 10 times.
