Ric-y Jazz, Ric-y Country???

I've played my Ric in jazz, country, and blues bands. But I've never seen any notables playing a Ric bass in these genres. Surely they exist????

All this has more to do with image than sound.
Like in Jazz, you are more likely to see Gibson jazz boxes than Strats and Teles, and never a pointy Ibanez: these are strictly for metal, right? Until Carol Kaye pulls out her pointy Ibanez 6-string and sounds just as jazzy as anyone with a full hollowbody Gibson. That is because she's too old to bother with image considerations, so she plays what sounds good to her, and that happens to be a pointy Ibanez.
Back to bass, why don't you see P's in fusion? Only J's or exotic wood-topped organic-shaped (or humped) boutique basses on a wide strap. It's the image.
Same with Ric basses and their rock image. You also never see Gibson T-Birds in jazz or country.

Ilan, you make some very good points. I've noticed that Rics show up a lot in alt bands. I've played jazz, country, blues, rock, and a few other genres with mine. Until last year, the Ric was my sole bass for 35 years. Now I also have a Jazz Bass--it can do what the Ric can't and vice verse.
