Electronics Doublecheck

Finally got my 4001, love it and playing to death. Lifted the pickguard to make a tracing to order the new one from pick guardian...ouchie. It looks like someone sneezed while soldering. What a mess. Two of the pots look somewhat original, I know one other was replaced two years ago. The caps are the same as I have seen of other folks original pics but they are coming apart, someone already removed the third cap. The switch is as loose as a goose. I'm thinking about just dropping in a whole new harness and setting this one aside.

Pots should be 250 for volume and 500 for tone correct?
I have caps.
Switch? Gibson 3-way? Something more solid.

I'd rather have a solid player than worry about some of the electronics cutting out.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Post a foto of what the harness looks like and you'll get members telling you want is the best course of action. I just had a member here rebuilt my 1965 4001 harness. Some very talented people here on this list!!

Yes, originally, tone pots were 500k, volume 250k. At some point, they were changed to all pots being 330k...

And you can get a new switch from the RIC boutique.

In case you opt for new jacks and wire:

Wiring diagram. Just remember the 4001 pot values instead of the 330k shown.

John, thanks for the info. I did a little gentle bending and the switch is more solid. I cleaned up one of the pots while I made the pick guard tracing. Should last me for a few, I'll still get a wiring harness to just get everything on the same page and store the old stuff.

If you are going to get a harness, have Dane Wilder (aceonbass) make you the right one with the 500k/250k pots. It makes a difference.
