PRS Soundhole Design?

I don't know if this has been brought up before, but isn't this PRS design a direct ripoff of the iconic Rickenbacker "slash" soundhole?

No, take a look at some old German archtops for instance. Maybe this soundhole was something Roger Rossmeisl learned in the family trade along with the German Carve.Grey wrote:Really? I thought that was something unique to Rickenbacker.
Don't hold back now.paologregorio wrote:Besides, the sound hole on a PRS isn't the problem; it's the rest of the guitar.
Has anyone ever seen a builder try so hard not to be another brand by essentially designing a guitar that's an amalgamation of inside out silhouettes of every guitar it's trying not to look like?!
Honestly, do people find that guitar attracttive? I may be biased, but looking at that thing does not want me to think, "ooh, I want to spend my $$ on that!!!"
It's really not an appealing guitar. Granted it's their low-end model but PRS is at Gearfest every year so i've played even their most expensive products and certainly never felt like I was playing a 4000$ instrument.paologregorio wrote:Has anyone ever seen a builder try so hard not to be another brand by essentially designing a guitar that's an amalgamation of inside out silhouettes of every guitar it's trying not to look like?!

Boy have I got a guitar for you! This belongs to a friend of mine who has been on and off the fence about selling it.Grey wrote:That said, there is one PRS guitar I have love affair with.
Unfortunately that guitar has two things I don't like about PRS, flame tops and complicated inlays. The birds just don't do it for me.jps wrote:Boy have I got a guitar for you! This belongs to a friend of mine who has been on and off the fence about selling it.

He can yank the birds out and paint the body for you.Grey wrote:Unfortunately that guitar has two things I don't like about PRS, flame tops and complicated inlays.
