Went on You Tube the other day and all the video's of people playing 4001 V63's were of Beatle songs. Then you look at the video's of a 4003 and they are all Rush or Yes songs. Can someone explain? Hey Robert! The 4001v63 and the 4001CS are essentially the same bass. There are subtle differences like fretboard wood (the CS has African Vermillion as opposed to the typical Bubinga), but that wouldn't cause any discernible difference in tone between the two.

String it up with Rotosounds, play hard, and make your signal a bit gritty.

And Bob, don't forget to get some fret buzz in there!!!

I have one of each and noticed that on the 4001V63 the neck PU (hi-gain toaster) reads out at 11.5 ohms but on the 4001 CS the neck PU reads out like a '60s vintage toaster at about 6.5 ohms.

That's interesting, I didn't care for the original hot toaster and changed it out for a scatterwound which is much better, IMO.

Yes interesting, my CS had a hot one, have a 65 Toaster in there now, smoooooooth.

If the CS is from 2000 then it would make sense, that's when they switched from hot toasters to scats.

4001 CS is 1999, 4001V63 is 1997.

Just WAIT 'till you hear the difference when you strip the finish! You can literally HEAR the wood BREATHE! It's ALIVE, man!

I've had a V63 and 2 CS basses (I've also played a few other V63s) and to be honest the V63s sounded quite a bit different than the CSs, both of which sounded similar to each other. The CSs were harder and honkier and the V63s more complex and airy. Why? I don't know; wood? finish? Both? FWIW I've preferred the V63s....
