Ric bass in early country music?

A while ago I thought I saw a link to either a video or a picture of an early, classic country artist whose bass player was using a Rickenbacker bass. Now I can't seem to find it. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
thanks

Yes. You'll see in my book a whole page on James Kirkland who played an early Rickenbacker 4000 bass with Ricky Nelson and then "Gentleman Jim" Reeves and the Blue Boys. Most likely this is who you are thinking of.

There was this 2010 thread

about Jim Reeves. It might have some information you're looking for but, sadly, the videos no longer play.

The rich, bassy tone of a Ric is great for certain styles of country. Modern styles that borrow from rock seem to like the Fender-ish mid punch tone a little better, but in country music where upright would feel appropriate a Ric sounds good too. I have subbed in a few country gigs this way.

Thanks guys.
I'm doing a show with my Buck Owens tribute band this week. Hopefully my SnoGlo will be here by then!

I remember seeing some old Alabama videos with Teddy Gentry playing a 4001, but don't remember what songs though.
Bassically, Michael

Looks like he's using black tapewound strings.

Paul, I just wanted to thank you again for publishing your book, as it has helped me through the longest week of my life!
Waiting for my SG to crawl across the country (with no updates from FedEx mind you!) was just a bit more bearable with all those great pictures to gaze at, and hey! I learned a lot too!
Thanks again!

I think the center guitar is still at RIC (and I think I played it once!).

Nice! It's the non-Sam Cooke one we also played?

Of course.....not strictly country. Although he lived in Hendersonville on the North side of town until he passed away. His bass player sported a Rick in '64
