Ah..the Dealey "4001S" if I,m not mistaken. Old heads will remember this from e bay a couple of years ago which was advertised for $6500 as a genuine 4001S...Under closer scrutiny it ended up as "possibly a 4000 conversion"...It never sold as far as I know, even after the price came down. People looking for something like this run a mile in the other direction when the seller seems so vague... Nice bass, but in all probability not a genuine 4001S/RM1999.

Wints, this bass was up on ebay several times, as I recall... Each time the reserve and BIN were set so high that no one apparently wanted it. I can't remember precisely why it was judged a 4000 conversion tho...

Yep it's Dealey's, and if I remember correctly there seemed to be a lot of suspect bids on the auctions.

It's too bad, because if the bass hadn't been converted from a 4000 and left alone it would be a VERY rare bass in itself, and worth big bucks....even with the one pickup.

Here's the Dan Ealey link at Rickbeat where Wayne's buddy found it:

It has a rounded neck heel instead of square, so that puts it in the later than 1964 category & the jack plate came from a wrecked 1996 from Australia.
I think it did sell eventually.

Hi!
Wow! I better make some corrections to that page at once!
If this is as you guys say here, it maybe shouldn't be there at all, or at least with the correct information.
Thank you for this info, guys!
