1964 360F

Post by libratune »

F bodies came in two styles, old style 1958-61 and new style 1966 to approx. 1969. Some of the old style and all of the new style had checkered binding.

I recently acquired a 360F that has electronics and jackplate dating to 1964, with 1964 features such as white plastic and no-print chrome-top knobs.

The headstock, body shape and cavity and the flamed maple neck all look like old style. Also interesting is the binding, not checkered but white over black, as were some of the old style bodies and a few of the early 360 NS bodies from 1964/65.

Great find, Ron - congrats!

That must be one of the very last (original-style) F-models made. Gorgeous. 8)

Thanks, all.

It plays really well, great neck angle (surprise!). it's a clean machine. Very little wear on this one though it had been sitting for a while and took a good cleaning. There are no other "F" bodies in the Register between 1961 and 1966.

I was contacted about this guitar by a vintage dealer in SF area. He doesn't deal much in Ricks and I've bought Ricks from him before. I hadn't heard from him in 2 years and he emailed me a photo. He couldn't figure it out. I did the deal on the spot.

Thans Tony. I have an early 1965 360 MG date code EA that has the same binding on the back. I initially thought it was rebound but it appears to be original. The finish around the binding is not disturbed and the patina is there. The binding matches the binding on the 360F. Perhaps this type of binding was done during 1964 in a (brief) transition period to checkered binding? Or when there was a shortage? Don't know for sure, but there's at least 2 of them!

Hey Ron,

I wasn't thinking that the binding was not original. It looks to me that it's

been there since day one...and I can't imagine that someone would change it.

It's amazing that you have another one with the same binding!

I just love that guitar. It's probably my favorite example of a F model Ric.

Congrats again on an amazing find!!!

Do you know anything about it's history?
