There is currently a 1976 3001 at Guitar Center. $999, non-original HSC (a Fender case, actually) - and I'm REALLY considering it. Any words of wisdom from previous 3001 players?

I am not easily frightened by 'heavy' . . . I used to play an original 1978 Music Man Stingray! (laugh)

I'd be more worried that it won't hold its value. Recent ebay sales may be in the $900-1000 range but I can't imagine that lasting. I predict they'll continue to decline.

I don't buy instruments as investments. I buy them to play. I have a 3001 and I play it out all the time. Sure, it's pretty heavy. Has an AMAZING neck, action as low as you like, and sounds great. My 2 cents.

Heavy for sure -- but worth the weight!

I had a 3001 and two 3000s. Can't really remember them being that heavy. No lightweights, but not that heavy.
Very nice basses. Nice players. I liked the 3000 better. More of a special sound. The 3001 is very Rick-ish, with sometimes a bit of P.

I believe there's one for sale on bassoutpost.com too.

Good, solid, player's bass, if that's what you're after.

I do not think you should bother about the depreciation of a $900 thingie.

To me, all Rickenbacker basses not starting with a 4 leave me pretty cold.

Great underated bass. I love mine and play it all the time. I doubt you will be disappointed.

A 3001 for under $1k does not seem like that bad of a deal to me,if the bass is in nice shape. It's not my cuppa Ricjoe,(too bulky) but i think they have a great sound. I like the pickup and the tone circuit on them,and the necks are nice,too.
