A new bass butcher!

1979 4001 being sold as parts - total sum of all the bits (with a faulty pickup and no TRC) is a ridiculous $3200 or thereabouts !!!!!!! And it's all a bit tatty too!!

I saw this guys stuff for sale and thought, what is he smoking?? I normally don't chuckle when seeing hugely inflated RIC items for sale since I know they will be clogging up eBay for quite some time and I'll have to look at them forever until he gets tired of posting them and takes them down. Like the guy who puts strap bolts on ebay and marks them at $25. Seriously??

There is a seller there now attempting to sell an RI gap tooth tail piece for too much money. At first glance it looks like the real deal aluminum one and it's priced like one to boot! His description is pretty nebulous and I'm of the feeling he's going to trick someone into buying it, that thinks it's a real vintage pre 73 tailpiece. Now that really pisses me off!

While I think there's a special place in Hell for skumbags like this, he may have a better chance at selling these parts since he's in the UK and according to Glenn Tranter, Rick parts are harder to get there than in the US. But maybe he's just referring to new ones, I'm not sure.

Those hard to get items will always sell though....I bought a trc for £100 which stung a lot....however I had placed a for bid £200 previously but I lost that to some other poor soul....phew!

It's fun restoring a vintage bass but it's just not a financially sound idea any more.

Seller is in Tennessee, OP is in UK and looking at the UK eBay site, listing originates in the US but is visible on the worldwide sites where he will ship. But, yeah, he'll ship overseas so it is kind of nitpicking for me to point that out.

Aaah; I see. Well, where the seller is located was part of my point, and I mistakenly thought he was in the UK and thought that might be how he justified charging so much. But even given that scenario, it might be those across the Atlantic who are more willing to shell out bigger £££.

In a way this could be a good thing, leaving those who are willing to invest in a restoration project being the ones in it for the love, not the turn-around profit.

Luckily - it seems that the other butcher (at the start of this topic) hasn't sold much!
