Hi, everyone:

I just came across this McGuinn video. I absolutely love the sound of Roger's 12-string on this song. Notice how deep and full the low "E" string sounds when he hits a "G" chord-- and how clear and trebly the open "D" string sounds when he hits a "D" chord.

I have owned his signature model for 20 years and I've tried different compressors, amps, etc. BUT, I've never been able to get that luscious sound. You can really hear the power of the Rickenbacker 12-string here!!!!

Does anyone know how I can achieve this same sound????

He has a compressor built into his guitar.
If you search the forums you'll find many threads on the topic, along with gear which can help you achieve that sound.

Assuming you have the version with the internal compressor, all you might be missing is the amp, which in this era had a high probability of being a Roland JC120.

Dont forget roger tunes his rick down a half step.I can get that sound on my 360/12 if I tune down. Try it. I also use a fender deluxe reverb.

It appears as though the pickup selector switch was in the middle position, for what it's worth.

You didn't mention flat wound strings,so that may be the missing link for you.
