Rickenbacker spelling change

I have noticed some older Rick's pre 1950's with the name spelling on the headstock spelled the new way......
The question is why would the name be spelled cker in the 40's when they didn't change it til 1950
Example..... 1946 Ricker Spanish Sp. The spelling on the headstock is with cker not cher at the end.
Any thoughts

From what I have seen it was kind of random; perhaps they were not sure during that time period which way they wanted to spell the name.

I think it was just a matter of using up the nameplates and decals already printed with the "old" version of the name. On some models this took longer than on others, but by 1950 or so "Rickenbacker" seemed to be uniform throughout.

from what I have read. The name change came in '50.
Just odd how a '46 and '47 Spanish SP have the new spelling.
the '46 on the register page shows pictures with it with the new spelling......

Grant - Ron's theory is probably correct. We aren't talking large-volume orders here so if new nameplate were made for some models in '46, they may have still been using up old nameplates for other models until '50.
Much of the production back then was lap steel guitars.
