That's why they fell over............
Jeff,

Exactly! It was really odd not packing a Rickenbacker and having one perched in the stand next to my amp. Really weird. There has been zero learning curve to battle with this bass. Well, hand position is a bit odd since the scale is different and I have way more frets. I find myself looking at my fretting hand more.

It would be interesting to see how you'd get on with my Martin Keith Elfins, they are 34 1/2" scale length (and 5 string). I have no issues with the slight changes, I am even very comfortable on the ones I have with 25 1/2" scale lengths and 6 strings, to boot! Short scale basses, too. Do you play guitar, too, or just bass?

Something this short (fretless not a problem, though) might present a bit of an issue but I have played a bit with mandolins and can deal with them.

Jeff,

I had a Modulas Q5 that I believe was 35 inch scale. That did not bother me in the least. Teh the variable radius neck was odd but really no more of an issue as the extra scale length. I found I did nto "need" the B string as much I had thought. It was a very nice bass! Teh neck was rock solid. I'd tune and it would sit for weeks on end. I'd pick it up and it would be in perfect tune. I probably shoudl not have sold it now that Modulas is not more. Oh well, you can't keep them all!!

I find myself depending on my Spector more and more. So much so, I just purchased another. It's a USA bolt on neck NS-2J. It has dual 60's series Aguilar J pups as well as the OBP3 Aguilar pre amp. I'm told it it more mid aggressive than my PJ Spector. We'll see. She arrives later in the week. The OBP-3 gives me a dedicated tone knob to control the mid-range, as well as push/pulls for dual and single coil for each pup, individual volume, and a stacked tone knob.

Joh,

Admittedly, I do! She is a 2012 USA bolt on model, and man is she awesome!!! I can't believe she sat in the stores inventory for as long as she did. I got a real good deal on her from the Guitar Sanctuary in Texas. I've gotten to know the manager there and he is a great guy! The store does set ups as well and this is the second one I've gotten from them that is perfect!!

Bro, you'd love this one!! Very snarly!! Played it at rehearsal last night for the first time. it was a huge hit. I'm becoming a huge Spector fan, which is odd since I thought I'd never "fall for" an active bass.

Interesting. Yeah, I've never been a fan of active electronics either, but hopefully I'll have a chance to take ol' Blackie there for a test-drive!
