$200K for a bass he probably never even played...

Some people must think it's still 2005...

Pretty hard to ever feel comfortable about anything that came through Music Ground:

Well, normally they wouldn't make a ten foot pole long enough for me (or alot of people I know) to touch anything vintage from Music Ground, but fortunately this Hofner has a pretty traceable history before it came into their hands. It's really cool, but not $200K cool-- a lot to ask when all McCartney did was breathe on it for a few minutes.

Right, John! They really tried to push to me that since we will never have a shot at the two he played and that this one was made for him it would have a fantastic value. which it won't. Basically, they made the same mistake that all collectors do -- they price compare an original.

Well $150=200K is just an estimate. Based on what Mike is saying, it probably won't hit any reserve pricing they may have. Jerry Garcia's Travis Bean has more value IMO

That lucky someone/bidder will never fully be able to authenticate that bass. Eventual resale on that will be impossible.

and this is why I'll never be in the auction estimate business. :D Although I was right about the Garcia guitar being of greater perceived value as it sold for $238,700
