Lee Jackson (Refugee) - Grand Canyon Suite
Peter Giles (King Crimson) - Pictures of a City & Groon (both from In The Wake Of Poseidon)
Chris Squire - Catherine of Aragon (Rick Wakeman's Six Wives of Henry VIII) - not much bass on this track, but what's there is sublime, Chris at his best!

Very hard to narrow it down when it comes to Chris Squire,but his work and his recorded bass sound were never better than on the Drama album. For Geddy,the equivalent would be hemispheres.
Other Rick bass faves for me are "turning Japanese" (Vapors),"ice"(Crack the Sky),"namm namm"(Kraan),"running hard"(renaissance). "Lifetime"(Flash)
Also "silly love songs" (Wings),for that "other" Rick sound......

You right about Chris's work in Catrerine of Aragon. Simple (for Chris) but very well placed notes!

I believe Andy Babuik quotes sound engineer Richard Lush as saying that FaH was Lennon on a Fender bass, adding that that's why the tone is so 'ploppy'. If that's accurate, it's likely because McCartney was playing harpsichord on the track instead.

I stand corrected. My sources were incorrect. Great bass moment in any case. I'd read McCartney laid down the bass during basic tracking. I'll look it up again in Lewisohn

THAT don't sound like no Fender Bass........and the particular line sounds like something Paul played!!!!!

Paul and Ringo were both wrong?!

According to The Beatles Bible--don't know how accurate it is:

The backing track featured Paul McCartney on bass guitar, Ringo Starr on drums and George Martin on harpsichord on track one, and McCartney's guide vocals and John Lennon's rhythm guitar simultaneously taped onto track three. There was some bleed between the instruments which meant the guide vocal can be heard on track one.
