I am about to swap out the strap buttons on my 4001V63 for dunlop straplocks.
I have done this on my other Ric basses but cannot remember the tread count of the thumbscrew.

Is it a 10-46 machine thread or something else?

No, they are 10-24 thread. I know this for a fact because that's what I use to make my DIY Schaller-style straplocks.

No, they are 10-24 thread. I know this for a fact because that's what I use to make my DIY Schaller-style straplocks.

If you have difficulty finding them, let me know, I have a box of them in 7/8" length. You'd have to modify the head, probably, similar to my filing it down to fit the Schaller style button.

Thanks for the offer Gary but I have done this before on my other Rics. Just wanted confirmation on the thread count.

I usually just wrap the screw in tape and insert it into a drill and put it against a metal file. Takes less than a minute per screw to get it down to the proper size to drop in.
Takes me longer to drill out the bottom of the straplock button so the screw will drop through.

I do almost the same thing, but I use a 10-24 tap and thread the hole. It turns out that the hole is almost the perfect size for a 10-24 tap. Then the screw is threaded onto the strap button and stays in one piece. OK, probably overkill, but I already have a tap and die set...
