Yes, it is true. A fellow Forumite put me in touch with someone acting on Geddy Lee's behalf in procuring an Rm3261, and the deal went through (my being sick with the flu for two weeks+ did not make things go smoothly from my end ). I asked permission to be able to make this information public, BTW.
I am glad that this great bass will be in the hands of such an esteemed bass player.
