Hello,
first post here. I just got me a -74 4001 with a badass bridge. the cavity has been rerouted and filled with wood and I fear that I dont have the original holes to set a hipshot ric bridge which id rather had instead of the badass if only for the looks. So my question is does anyone have the dimensions i could go by to get the hipshot bridge in exaclty right position, distance to the tail and so on before I drill new holes.

Show us a clear photo of the area so that we can identify what original holes may still be there.

Side-to-side would be easy using the E and G strings to locate position to have the strings the same distance from the edge of the fretboard. Where to mount as to distance to the end of the body, my 1975 4001 has the screw holes 75mm from the body end measured at the center of the skunk stripe.
And welcome to the RRF!

Thanks a lot, now I took off the badass, and didnt have any of the original holes left, I will use the 75mm to try to make new position, thanks again, I let you know how it proceeds.

Ok, here we go. The 75 was actually too much, my tech ended up somewhere around 70mm as he said intonation would not work and the distance to the tail too big. But I guess there might be a difference between -74 and -75??? maybe. Anyhow, the bass playes great. now with hipshot bridge and tuners instead of badassII and schaller m4. we plugged the tuner holes and redrilled them. Here's some pics
