The Pure McCartney Tribute 2012 and the Rickenbacker...

The 'Pure McCartney' dvd show depicts bassist Soren Koch using a Rickenbacker in nearly all the tunes presented....mostly RAM. It looks somewhat altered with different knobs, etc. The more I attempted to freeze and study it, the more puzzled I became. Anyway, lets have some fun.
What do the experts think? Is it a V63, Or, an RM?

That is Tim Christensen & The Damn Crystals, a Dutch(?) group. Looks to me that the bass is either a genuine (and nicely kept/restored) '60s 4001S/RM1999, or a newer bass made to look like one. The tailpiece is a three-screw and looks a bit "frosty" like the plated aluminum ones did. It does seem to have the shorter "throat" headstock of the later V63s, though.

Yes, that is Tim Christensen (Denmark), and of course his friends, Mike Viola, and Tracy Bonham from here in the States. You sure picked up on much more than I did, Paul. Good eye!
The bass mix is huge on the big screen and system at home. I was impressed with their version of Smile Away since I had read where Macca had overdubbed something like 8 bass tracks onto that tune. Koch's Hofner sounds strong as well, on tunes such as 'Too Many People'.

I LOVE McCartney's "RAM" album!!! I've been listening to it for MANY years now. I've gone through TWO vinyl versions, and also have it on CD.
As far as I'm concerned, it is a Technical Masterpiece!!!!!!
Songs I'd recommend------Too Many People, Monkberry Moon Delight, and Smile Away. Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey is on that album.
If you haven't heard it....give it a shot.
His First solo album "McCartney" is pretty good as well-----different from RAM though.

From the size of the upper horn it looks like a late 80s/early 90s 4003S with a different pickguard moving the neck pup to the 1/2" position. But what do I know...
