A friend of mine who used to play in bands back in the early 80's offered me another of his guitars (first was a '79 Stratocaster). He purchased this one new in 1980 and it sat in it's case for years before he decided to let it go to someone who would play it (and I have been!). It's in nearly mint condition, except for swirls in the finish and tarnish to a few screws and tuning pegs. I've been playing it through a variety of amps and it delivers the sounds you can only get from a Rickenbacker. It sounds especially glorious through the TopHat King Royale (boutique AC30TB), though it sounds great through the Spitfire, the 18w, and the Fender Bassman (in 1x12 custom cabinet).

Here she is:

While it won't be my overall #1, it will be in the top 3 getting regular play at home an at gigs.

Very cool! My very first RIC was an April 82 620 that was identical to this guitar - (even had the model 620 TRC)... :P

The small headstock Kluson tuners 620s are relatively rare! And the high gain pick ups from this era are to my ears the best of the best...

Congrats on scoring a great guitar.

It's a delightful guitar. Love the weight, the beefy neck, the sounds. I've got Gibson and Fender sounds covered, acoustic electric, and now Rickenbacker. All that I'm missing are a 12 string and a Gretsch guitar. That would cover nearly all sonic landscapes for me. I remember when a friend bought what I think was a 330 in the early 70's, and felt it was a "plinky" sounding guitar. At the time it was Les Pauls and Fenders/Marshalls or nothing. Still, it was a very nice guitar. Now that I own one I wonder why it took so long!
