“John Lennon murder film causing controversy"

A new film has gone into pre-production in New York looking at the events that took place on the night former Beatle John Lennon was shot and killed outside his Manhattan home in December 1980.

The Lennon Report looks at the focus on the efforts of first responders at the site of the shooting - and at the Roosevelt hospital where Lennon was taken.

BBC’s Talking Movies' Tom Brook reports.

To be brutally honest, as a nation, we British just don’t share this apparent endless recycling fascination that our American cousins seem to have with tragically premature celebrity deaths.

OK, John Lennon died before his time but so have a great many others both before and after he did. While Brits are far from immune to bouts of national grief and outpourings of the Princess Diana variety. Maybe it’s something in our historical DNA, that as an island nation with a past propensity to fight bloody wars against our mainland European neighbours, we just tend to quickly get over it and move on. It is only the media who feel it’s their job to periodically remind us of such tragic events.

After near 35 years let him rest in peace.
