Ordering a new Lefty 12 string- Rickenbacker please advise

I am grateful that Rickenbacker is again trying to provide a limited supply of lefties for the minority of its committed owners and supporters. I placed an order for a 370/12 in Jetglo in February of 2013 and was just informed by my authorized dealer that this order did not even show up on a backorder report, that all lefties had been removed. Before I give up and start looking for used models I was hoping that someone from Rickenbacker would advise me on whether to reorder this guitar, or perhaps settle for a lower model (330/12 or 360 /12) if any of those will be made in the next 2-3 years.

I don't mind waiting, and I would prefer to put my money in the pockets of Rickenbacker and its very much appreciated craftsmen/women if that is a possibility. Also, if it helps production scheduling, perhaps a minimum number (like 2, 5 or 10) could be stipulated to warrant a build so that I and a few other lefties could put our orders in together for a future production schedule.

I should also mention that I'm the very proud owner of a 1994 lefty 370/6 fireglow that is my most prized guitar in the music room, and plan to hand it down to my children one day (one appears to be a lefty too).

Sincerely

William

Welcome to the RRF William. That is a tough thing to find out after this long a wait. Have you tried calling RIC Customer Service to find out about the lefty situation as to availability and the cancelling of your order?

I did call that number and got a message to leave a message which I didn't. Since it is my understanding that only a dealer can order a Ric I opted to minimize my likely frustration and not bug customer service and instead work diligently with a reputable dealer.

I though it was funny that an ordered guitar would just be wiped from the backorder list but apparently it was. I can only assume that a minimum number of a specific model must be ordered to warrant a production run, and especially so for a lefty. The other option seems to be if you are in a band of some level of popularity then your individual order would be built for understandable PR value.

When I suggested calling, I meant calling to find out if/when lefties would be in production. You could also find out about order cancellations and whether it happened or was just the dealer clearing his books. :)

William - posting this over at the RIC corporate forum is your best bet to get a response.

From what John Hall has said before they will accept orders for LH instruments at any time but they will wait until they have enough ordered before they will schedule the production run. So the wait will be longer then ordering a RH guitar.

As to the order being cancelled - that sounds like the dealer. Try Pick of the Ricks next time. Sad to lose your place in the line up.

Also you can email customer service at RIC.

Brian

My guitar IS on order at Pick of the Ricks!... and believe it or not Rickenbacker actually responded to me directly via PM to confirm the details of my order and to let me know they have hundreds of leftys on order now

EXCELLENT news, William! (Welcome, by the way). Nice to hear that Rickenbacker hasn't forgotten us leftys again, after all. I'm a little envious; there's no way I can play a 12-string. With my big stubby fingers, the best I've ever managed was fretting only.4 strings at a time; and that was on an acoustic Epiphone with a w-i-d-e neck. On a Rick? Not in this lifetime; but, I play bass, anyway... :)
