The Ric pictured here is being sold at a local music store near where I live. It is said to be in MINT condition and was built in the last three years (no serial # was offered). They are asking $1249.00 for this guitar and I'm wondering if this is a good price. Thanks for your input! Image Image

It's beautiful, but the asking price sounds a trifle high to me. The vintage case is an added-cost upgrade (that I could forego -- I can't HEAR a case) and the toaster pickups are a straight swap, aren't they? But, since the axe is only 3 years old or so, the toasters should be scatterwounds, and that's a good thing.

If they'd come off the price about $100-$150.00, and I suspect they may, I'd call it a fair deal. Go in and whine about the lack of a warranty. Tell 'em that you had your tiny heart set on a candy-apple red one, and that this one should be discounted, since it's not even painted...Come to think of it, you don't want that ugly guitar at all. See if they'll take $1100.00 even and call me if they say "Yes."

The price isn't terrible - depending on how much you want it. Last summer I paid a local shop $1499 for a MG 370/12 with the molded case and the current pickups. As Paul notes - the vintage case is an "upgrade" and the vintage (toasters) pickups are "extra". I then spent another $100 for the 12 saddle bridge (which I installed).

I'd say: play it and if it speaks to you, go for it!
