RIP: Ian McLagan

Post by JakeK »

Today, we lost a real legend: Ian McLagan of Small Faces and Faces fame.

McLagan, better known as "Mac", was one of the greats. He really knew how to play a soulful organ and a honky-tonk piano. He's backed legendary vocalists Steve Marriott, Rod Stewart and Mick Jagger, among others. His playing was tasteful. Not known for his singing, he had a voice that resembled something that could give Rod a run for his money.

I had the fortunate opportunity to meet Mac in Austin back in August. He had no ego, was charming and friendly and really seemed to care about his fans. He put on one of the best shows I'd ever seen with a tight, professional band, and for a moment, you forgot you were in a pub. I will remember that night fondly.

It's a party in heaven, Steve, Plonk and Mac reunite!
