Hello everyone,
I just purchased a 1995 330 recently and am making a few subtle changes to it, one question I cannot find the correct answer to is about the tuners. The 330 has the mini-Schallers on it stock, I am a lot more comfortable with the larger size tuning heads, so my question is: Will the larger tuners require drilling a new hole in the back of the headstock or will the larger ones align to the same holes? Same thing with the posts, are the holes through the headstock wide enough for the standard size Schallers? As much as I really want to make this change, it's not worth doing any drilling to my guitar..

Most companies now publish their tuners' architectural specs so you can compare. Stew-Mac in particular has detailed spec sheets so you can compare sizes.

If you get too large, you might run into interference with the headstock or another tuner.

I've checked out the specs as far as post diameter and they are the same, and I've seen 330's with both full size Schallers and full size Grovers before, so I think there's plenty of room for the heads. Stew Mac sells Schaller replacement heads, but only in the more "unique" materials.. black, opal, tortoise shell, they do not sell replacements for full size chrome.

WD or All Parts sell replacement large heads for "Kluson Style" that are supposed to also fit Schallers, but of course they advertise them with the disclaimer that they may or may not fit due to not being a direct replacement.
After looking at the the larger size tuner head, it looks like the screw that inserts into the tuner is much larger than the mini's, so if I were to pursue this is would seem to require total replacement, including a new holes in the back of the headstock.. Not going to jump into that lake yet, it stays in tune pretty well as is.. I'm sure I'll get used to they smaller heads..
