Hi Forumites,
I recently saw this 61 Toaster by dependablegibson in Ebay, I am not sure if this is a real vintage Pickup. I can see those little marks on the edges of the toaster slots which are typical for recent vintage toasters but i did not see them on my vintage 64 toaster. Also i find the mounting screws really odd. How can i find out if these (the seller has also an 1967 model up for auction too) are real vintage toasters ?

Those "dimples" on the pickup bobbins were present in '61 but had disappeared by '64.

We try as best as we can to track RICs that are butchered or parted out on Ebay. Gibsondependable (or Dependable Gibson as it appears he is now using two different accounts) is the same seller. He parts out t least 20 or so RICS every year.

The pick up in question seems to have come from a parted out JG 450

No, they did not return after the switch in '64 until the C-series reissues in the mid-2000s.

As a general note, he doesn't photograph all of the actual pickups. I bought a couple of 12k toasters off of him that showed standard slotted screws but listed resistance in the high 11k range. They came as advertised but with the expected Phillips screws. I'll give him credit in that condition seems to be fairly assessed, but he does use 'stock' photos at times. If you search his current auctions right now, there are two pickup auctions using the exact same photo.

One other caution is that I'm pretty sure he just dates pickups by the guitar date, assuming them to be original when they may or may not be.

As indicated, this likely came from that '61 450.

There's a decent photo of the bridge pickup in the set. These would be tapped (mounted with machine screws rather than wood screws). That may explain what you mean by "odd" in reference to the screws. You can just drill them out for 'normal' mounting.

I had a '63 900 with dimples and a '64 1000 without them. IIRC, serials were CC and DI, so that's over an 18-month swing if I'm doing my math right. Perhaps not much help for those in search of the most detailed of nuances as we tend to be here.
