The next natural progression of the Ric re-release (for me anyway) would be putting out the original 4000 in a two pick-up version with modern touches:

I've been sitting at my four Ric basses for some time now, but something with this old retro mojo would really get me to reach for the credit card. Of the four, only the jetglo 4001S was purchased new way, way back in 1984. Take a look at pages 8-13 of Paul Boyer's book. Go to page 17 of Paul's book (picture D) for a two pick-up version, and also pages 18-19. Heck, a single pickup version would be OK for me. I mean, all of those dot inlay necks are already being manufactured...

I probably sound like a broken record, but at least I am consistent.

I would like that too,especially if they used a different bridge arrangement,not like the original but not like the 4003's,either. But i already got the look covered with my customised Laredo....

Hey David.... I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for RIC to do something like that. Just send me your Rick of choice, and I'll mod it along the lines of the 4004 I did on page 134 of Paul's book, which now belongs to Woody

Dane, that bass looks really nice! My early 80's mapleglo 4003S might make the best candidate, but it would lose that McCartney vibe. My late 90's fireglo 4003 (with the shark fin inlay) is probably the best candidate, as I also want leave my trusty '82 jetglo 4001S stock. The 4003 would look more like a "developmental" transition model as noted in Paul's book, but that isn't such a bad thing. I will do some mulling over.
