The next natural progression of the Ric re-release (for me anyway) would be putting out the original 4000 in a two pick-up version with modern touches:

I've been sitting at my four Ric basses for some time now, but something with this old retro mojo would really get me to reach for the credit card. Of the four, only the jetglo 4001S was purchased new way, way back in 1984. Take a look at pages 8-13 of Paul Boyer's book. Go to page 17 of Paul's book (picture D) for a two pick-up version, and also pages 18-19. Heck, a single pickup version would be OK for me. I mean, all of those dot inlay necks are already being manufactured...
