From Reverb....I think this instrument was on on Ebay not too long ago. At that time I mentioned to the seller the strings were wrapped on the incorrect side of the post, causing binding at the nut, etc. He mentioned it was 'professionally' set up. Indeed, his Tech only serves to embarrass himself. Appears to be a one piece 2009 neck.

Has anyone ever tried to reverse the TRC on a C64, to see if the holes line up for a 'correct' appearing TRC?

I have never greatly minded the reverse headstock, but I can't stand the upside down TRC.

I think could do one of these if the TRC was traditional in appearance.

Well, they are correctly strung if you're used to turning the "top" keys (E and A) counter-clockwise to tune the strings higher. The "problem" is that the C64 has Gotoh reverse tuners that emulate the reverse Kluson tuners of the original. It may have been "professionally set up" that way at the owner's request. But yeah, it looks stupid.

That's nothing compared to the stringing I've seen in a Dallas-area GC, where the strings are only wrapped about a half of a wrap around the post. Not exactly the key to tuning stability in my book...

Apparently the closer you can get the strings to being straight in line past the nut, rather than at an angle, the better their behavior as far as tuning and intonation -- or so I've been told. So I suspect you'd want to restring this the proper way if you were going to play (or display) it.

My buddy botched the string job on my Laredo, and the D/G strings are like that. Been that way a couple years, have not noticed any issues with intonation or tuning...

Yeah, it looks stupid. Doesn't seem to affect anything.

BTW, my buddy is usually better than that. I suspect he had a few drinks in him when this happened.

There is a picture of Sir Paul's bass laying on the floor of the studio strung that way...
Maybe the owner wanted to do that....

At least they didn't go over the top of the horseshoes. I've seen that!

You bet. It works best filing the nut to angle direct to the post. Perhaps, it's not played, and its a wall hangar.

I don't think this guy had any problems with strings coming of the nut at an angle.

Would winding the strings on the posts in this unorthodox way put additional stress on the headstock?

I can go for years between string changes on my basses, and usually a year or more on my guitars.

I can't image that. A few months of playing is all it takes for strings to get dull and lifeless.
