I was interested in getting a 360 12 but I'm torn between hi gain and toaster pickups. There are fans of both. I know most people say for the Byrds sound you want toasters. But I thought why not have one of each pickup? And which pickup in which position, bridge vs neck.

But then I started thinking why not get a 370 12 and have 2 toasters and one hi gain, or 2 hi gains and one toaster? Yet still, which pick ups in which position? Since I recall reading a post by John Hall saying he didn't think the middle pick up in a 370 was necessary ( I could be wrong it was a few years ago I read it), I figured why not make that the one that is the different one. So neck (toaster), mid (hi gain), bridge (toaster). Apparently Roger McGuinn used the treble pickup for his solos.

Any thoughts on this?

Out a toaster cover on the hi gain and they'll match.

I like the sound of 7.4 toasters too much to want to change either, but that's an interesting idea. Actually, come to think of it, I recently used my '85 360 on a gig and it did great. But I think it fit the bill because we were going for '95 Radiohead tones.

I prefer the high gain at the neck and the toaster at the bridge when combining toasters and high gains on a two pickup model.

I like the sound of a toaster at the neck when isolated for a bit more mellow (maybe more "woody") tone on some songs and have both my twelves set up with them. For the bridge pickups I use high gains, which seem a bit more aggressive. My middle pickups are wired separately on their own channels, as I did find that the middle pickups in the standard wiring scheme didn't seem to add much. One guitar has a middle toaster, the other a high gain and I can run them through their own amp channels, effects, etc. I haven't decided which I like better.

Thanks for the input everyone! I think that's what I'll do. I'd like to order a fireglo from the factory but there is no way to tell if it's gonna be a good one. Some fireglo finished look terrible. So I guess I'll go with a jetglo.

FG is difficult to make look correct in photos.
