The '68 4001 I purchased a while back is missing three of the horseshoe surround screws and I'd like to get similar replacements. The one remaining original screw is a slotted 3/8" with a round head. Does anyone know the "size"? It appears to be the same as the ones holding the TRC. Thanks!

I am looking at a bunch of photos to verify this, and what I come up with is that the screws are mostly Phillips head, not slotted, although there were a few slotted screws in with the Phillips screws on one or two basses. The size should be the same as the ones for the TRC and those that screw on the jack plate, and possibly the tuning keys, also.

While current Ricks use a particular Phillips heads screw, 60's Ricks used a slotted head screw. RIC sells these in the Boutique since they were used on the C64's.

Common mistake: you use a "flat" screwdriver on slotted screws, so . . . .

The Rick 4001S/RM 1999 in Tony Bacon's The Ultimate Guitar Book on page 164, shows slotted screws for the surround. It also shows very large diameter slotted oval head neck pickup screws which are countersunk into the pickguard. Through the years, I've seen quite a bit of mixture involving screw types and sizes in Rickenbacker instruments.

Is it still possible to get the slotted screws for the toaster that were installed on the C64?
I can never tell which part numbers are current and which are vintage reissue on the schematic diagrams on the boutique pages.

For the surround try scrounging a few screws from a vintage lapsteel.

The C64 used phillips screws on the surround. I do have an earlier 60`s Rickenbacker lapsteel and it also uses phillips screws. I`m sure I can find them online - just might take a bit of digging.

That's how I see it from all the photos I have collected over the years; the majority of them show Phillips screw heads as having been used.

A '68 should have Philips screws for the HS surround. A '64 has slotted.
