Neck pickup routing on 2015 basses

Hi all,

Have a 4003S on order.

Been looking at a few of the images I could find on recent Rick basses... specifically the neck pickup routing.

Looks like the routing is big enough to possibly have the neck pickup swapped for a toaster and moved a little closer to the fingerboard than what comes from the factory. Probably not to the 1/2" position but maybe 3/4"?

Of course, a new pickguard would have to be made...

Has anyone taken a look or tried this with the most current basses?

Cheers,
Chris

Why would you want to move it closer? If the pickup isn't in the 1/2" position (where ping harmonics can be heard, and where some think sonic wonders occur) what's the point? I think the pickup can only be moved at max, 1/8". If that's enough movement for you, you can just shave additional material from the front edge of the guard, dowel all eight screw holes, then move it forward and redrill the screw holes.

Personally, for aesthetics.

OK, 1/8". That's what I was interested in, how much the pickup can move forward in its cavity. But honestly, that's not a whole lot so I will probably just swap in a toaster and call it a day.

Cheers,
