4001 Amp Settings/EQ

I've recently changed my rig from Markbass to Fender. Equally lightweight, and for me, a far better and rounded tone.

The Precision is awesome through it. I've been struggling a little with my 4001 - it was amazing at one gig, but at rehearsal, wasn't quite as up in the mix.

With that in mind, I'd like some food for thought - what settings do you guys use for the best results from your 4001? I love the bright and clang, but also like solid bottom as well....and I've got to cut through as Les Paul wielding guitarist as well! :D

I went from too light, and with the bass up, too much boom - any thoughts?

Boominess can be helped often by raising the amp off the floor a little.

Of late I tend to keep my amp pretty much flat and try to EQ things from the bass itself. Except for my hot wired Ibby, which is just the 2 PUP's straight to the output. For my 4001 I'll usually keep both PUP's on and fiddle with the balance between them and sometimes the tones.

I don't like the effect you get when both volumes are maxed - the comb filter effect, so I back each volume off a bit from max. I set the overall EQ from the bass and my amp is either set flat or the mid(s) are dialed back from half way. Bass, if different than 50% is boosted and treble is cut...I don't like clang from any bass guitar, particularly my 4003.
Everybody has different tone tastes, this is mine.

Cool ideas.

What is the comb filter effect? I must have always had it, as I've always played Rics maxed out!

Not sure if this will do you any good but I have my Eden flat. My Ric is pot out wide open on treble and bass VoIP slightly rolled off. Seems to be a little sweet spot there.

Just curious here, but what Fender did you go too?

Went for a Rumble 500 and 115 cab. Have since added the 40 as a practice/small gig amp. They are really super sounding IMHO, much warmer than my old rig.

I gigged the 4001 with them a while back, and it was excellent. Change of room the other week for band practice needed more, hence the post. I run the P-bass with the EQ flat.
